Hi Andrea,

Thanks for your question!

Pretty much any white wine will go with apples, including sweet dessert wines if you're really into the sugar. My personal favorite with most apples is Champagne. Not sparkling wine. Champagne. Might want to try that out if you've got the budget.

Otherwise a dry white like Sauvignon Blanc or a Pinot Grigio/Gris would work. But it also depends on the kind of apple we're talking about. Tart? Sweet? Spicier (think cinnamon-like)?

If you're having tart apples like Granny Smith, go with a California Chardonnay or a Riesling. The thicker, more buttery flavor of the California Chardonnay can help balance the tartness. Same for the Riesling, though you're balancing the tartness with a little sugar.

Sweeter apples go best with the dry whites mentioned above, in my opinion, but that's because I don't go in for a ton of sugar. I would also add a white Burgundy to this list as well.

Spicier apples (like Macintosh) should go well with Rieslings, Gewurtztraminers or Viogniers.

Hope all that helps! Let me know!

I like it as I enjoy wine, but do have a difficulty time moving beyond "white goes with white meats and red with the red meats" - so looking forward to your ideas.
