Wine Review: Chateau de La Chaize Brouilly 2006

Chateau de La Chaize Brouilly

Chateau de La Chaize Brouilly 2006

A Gamay from the Brouilly region that was lost in the pile of BevMo deals from this past June/July.

Cranberry juice. Glistening ruby against the light leads to deep purple otherwise.

Very tight nose. Nothing much to report but tart cranberry, some raspberry, and a bit of cow poop. The poop is what we love about French wine, but the fruit is lacking. Also, how about a little mustiness?

The acidity is there to match the strawberry that flutters in and out, but other than that, this is pretty thin. Not too much more. The cranberries in the nose are gone, as are the raspberries and poop. A very fast wine. In your mouth, swallow, then nothing.

With Food

Honestly, you might want to stick with this alone. It isn’t going to really pair well with much unless it’s your 5th or 6th bottle of the dinner party, in which case you could pair it with shoe leather and it would taste like heaven.
