Wine Review: A Mano Soave 2007 – $10.04 for 2!

A Mano Soave

A Mano Soave 2007

So it appears that the BevMo 5¢ Wine Sale will never be over. It’s just going to go on and on and on. Seriously, we expected this thing to last a few weeks, which is a lot for most sales, but this thing has been going on since mid-June. Anyway, let’s look at something a bit different today: The A Mano Soave 2007.

If you had not guessed yet, “Soave” (swah-vay, as in “Rico) is the name of the wine and “A Mano” is the name of the brand. Soave wines are dry, white wines from the northeast region of Italy, near Verona. You remember Verona, where those two crazy kids Romeo & Juliet met tragedy because they couldn’t get their hands on any wine…something like that.

Anyway, Soave wines are made from a grape called Garganega which, besides having an awesome name, is not really grown anywhere else. Translation: get some Soave.

Good News: Soave is somewhat sweet, but in an understated kind of way. It is delicate, light and crisp. The first thing you will notice on the A Mano Soave is the light straw color. Not as golden as a Chardonnay, but not as silver as a Sauvignon Blanc. The nose is floral, with green touches of grass, melon and some freshly opened almonds. The wine should be chilled, but not too much. The green melon returns in the mouth, and you get a little touch of buttery green olive. The finish is quick and leaves you with a tingling lime and orange component. Very easy drinking.

With Food: Shellfish is made for this wine. Oysters, mussels, clams and probably crab or lobster, though we would suggest a more buttery Chardonnay for those if you have the choice.

$10.04 for 2 bottles at the BevMo 5¢ Wine Sale!

    Hi Lee,

Not sure if you are talking about 1 wine or 2, but based on our research, it looks like there are 2 wines, one named “Romeo” and the other “Juliet” out there. We’ve been unable to find a wine called “Remeo & Juliet” from our sources so far.

The “Juliet” looks promsing as it is a blend containing Garganega and Sauvignon Blanc. It is made by Zonin under the label “Primo Amore.” Do you think this might be what you are looking for?
